Episode Transcription

[00:00:00] Paul Scheer: Qualley out, Sennott in. Jason and I pitch a movie to Marlon Wayans and the connection between Jaws and Grizzly 2 Revenge, all this and more on today's How Did This Get Made Last Looks. Hit the theme.

[00:00:15] Music: [Intro Song]

[00:00:16] Paul Scheer: Hello Geek Sqwad, I mean G Sqwad. I'm Paul Sheer and welcome to How Did This Get Made Last Looks where you, the listener, get to voice your issues on Grizzly 2 Revenge.

[00:00:27] A movie that Discord user, Sean McBee thinks should have had the tagline,

[00:00:31] "Grizzly 2: The movie that saved Karate Kid."

[00:00:35] Yes. Thank you, Sean McBee. You can always submit them right on the discord. But first, let's give a shout out to Devin Helmer for that amazing theme song. Devin, you killed it. You did. I love that theme.

[00:00:51] People, you are the best. I gotta say. Every week I tune in to see what we have. I mean, I'm not tuning in, I'm broadcasting out. But I look at all the things that you send in. I'm always impressed. I love the chats and the discord. I love that you buy tickets to come see us when we're out and about. It means the world to me.

[00:01:08] Uh, and that's as sincere as I'm gonna get for the rest of this episode. Lemme tell you this, we got a big show. We're gonna be talking about corrections and omissions to Grizzly two, a movie that we barely talked about in the actual show. You got a lot of opinions about G Sqwad. We'll get into that as well.

[00:01:23] Plus, Jason stops by for a little just chat where we're gonna talk about Halloween movies. We're talking about this prank I played on Rob Hubel that went well, and one that I played on Jack McBrayer, that went less well. Uh, but anyway, hold on to your buddy, the Elf animatronics. And as always, at the end of the show, I'll reveal the movie for next week's episode.

[00:01:45] But guess what? One little piece of bad information. I will not be sharing a deleted scene from our Grizzly 2 episode because there was no off topic material. Okay? Nothing cut from the show that was pure, uh, Grizzly 2 info. Tips to tails. Uh, by the way, if you're part of the G Sqwad, the Geek Sqwad, we have a Geek Sqwad shirt available now in our merch store.

[00:02:11] You can just go check it out. You can get it as a sticker, which I have done and now put on a water bottle. Yeah, I'm wearing my own merch, or I guess I'm just repping my own merch, which is okay. My son did go to school in a dark web shirt for pajama day. I didn't have any part in that, but I was proud. People, How Did This Get Made is going to be in New York and Philly on November 7th and 8th. New York is almost sold out, so we just added a brand new date. That's right on November 6th, Dinosaur improv is coming to town hall. Same location, special guest we got. The best of the best in New York, Edie Patterson, Mary Holland, Danielle Schneider, Rob Huebel, me and Jason.

[00:02:51] So much good stuff. Every show is completely different. So come see us in Boston, DC Philly, New York, two nights in a row. Just go to HDTGM.com and check us out or see us here in Los Angeles. At the end of the month, we are doing some live shows at Largo Dinosaur and two, How Did This Get Made where a good friend Nick Kroll is joining us as a very special guest.

[00:03:16] Um, I also wanna say keep the prayers, keep the goodwill, keep the good thoughts going for Avaryl Halley. If you want to send her any sort of just good wishes, you can do it by snail mail at andrew@moviebitches.xyz or at Avaryl Halley PO Box 6 4 1 Agora Hills, California 9 1 3 7 6 people you had thoughts. You had questions. And now I try my best to give them answers and a little section we like to call Corrections and Omissions.

[00:03:44] Marty Englasias. Hit that theme.

[00:04:06] Music: [Corrections and Omissions Song]

[00:04:20] Paul Scheer: All right, Lizard Breath,

[00:04:24] "Was anyone else bothered by the two liter bottle of Slice that Laura De had hooked to her backpack?"

[00:04:31] Now, uh, Scott did include a picture of this. This is true. There is a two liter bottle of Slice, uh, just connected like, uh, like almost like on a, like a, a hook. Um, anyway,

[00:04:43] "Why wasn't it in a cooler? Warm orange soda doesn't sound refreshing after a long hike."

[00:04:49] Now Scott wants to point out it is not a bottle of Slice. It is a bottle of Orange Crush. So Lizard Breath, you've been debunked. Everything you say now, it doesn't make a difference 'cause you were wrong. Wrong. Orange soda, by the way, if there's any hot soda to have, orange would be my favorite I think. How about you? What do you think? Come find me online. Let's talk about it. Uh, McGee 3D writes

[00:05:17] "In the beginning stock footage, you can see a guy surfing on a moving motorcycle in one of the overhead shots. I was so confused."

[00:05:24] Whoa. Hold on one second. I didn't even see that. Good thing. Our eagle eyed producer Scott saw it. Pulled a clip. I watched it and yes, you are indeed right. There is a man doing a motorcycle stunt. He's standing on a moving motorcycle. I, this movie is absolutely amazing. It, uh, continues to confound me. If you've not read Brian Rafferty's, uh, article in The Ringer, you should definitely check it out. I was talking to him this week.

[00:05:51] Uh, and uh, you know, give him those clicks. 'Cause uh, he goes way into the deep Grizzly 2 lore. I don't think he gets to the bottom of the guy doing a motorcycle stunt, but man. Uh, stock footage. It happens to the best of us. Uh, the Shining and Blade Runner, right? They use the same stock footage. I forgot who did what.

[00:06:10] Sean McBee writes,

[00:06:11] "Not only did we not ever see the bear actually hit the electric fence."

[00:06:16] Whoa, Sean. Too many knots in that sentence. Okay? Uh,

[00:06:19] "But the footage of it being fried is literally cropped and saturated footage of the shark dying in Jaws 2."

[00:06:27] Wait, what Again? You have to be on the discord because all of this is in the Discord in its beautiful glory. I can see the scene from Jaws 2 and Grizzly and yeah, it's the same shot. Whoa. How did they get that footage? Where are they getting all this footage from? I mean, did they steal that just from a universal movie? Jaws 2 is still a popular, you know, that's like a it's a Universal special that's not like a, a company going bankrupt, man. Oh man. I love it.

[00:06:55] Pete Yes Man writes,

[00:06:56] "Can we talk about Bouchard saying how he and his family killed 25 bears in one day slash night? That's a massacre. First of all, are there even that many bears in one central location? And think of the travesty in all the blood that they left behind, let alone wiping out an entire species in an area."

[00:07:19] Wow. You guys did the thing that we didn't do this week, which is really talk about the movie, and I gotta tell you, that did stick out to me. The next omission is actually from AV Club writer Will Harris. Now, he reached out to me saying that he interviewed John Reese Davies back in 2012 and he asked him about Grizzly 2.

[00:07:40] Here are a couple of quotes from Will's interview. This is John Reese Davies talking about his character Bouchard.

[00:07:48] "I thought it was a rather good performance that I gave."

[00:07:51] I don't know why I put that accent on it, but I, I'm gonna continue to do that. And this is John commenting on Steve Inwood, who played Chief Park, ranger.

[00:08:00] John said,

[00:08:02] "Poor fellow, he was very handsome, very strong, but he had one or two problems, and I guess coming off the near superstardom of Staying Alive, it made him, perhaps overvalue his contribution a little bit, and the whole thing was a real eyeopener. Sometimes you learn more from the films that aren't terribly successful, and indeed, sometimes you learn more from the real disasters than you do from the ones that succeed. Sliders forever."

[00:08:35] I just added the Sliders forever. Uh, thank you Will Harris. I love Will. Will is a, uh, a friend of the pod. Uh, check out his writing wherever. You like pop culture, you like film, you like Will Harris dig back into his AV club. Uh, and also just see what he is up to. He's a good read. Alright, let's go to the phones.

[00:08:52] Josh, what do you got?

[00:08:54] Listener: Hey Paul. Uh, my name is Josh. I just thought, uh, you'd like to know something interesting. Uh, following Grizzly 2. Uh, Dana Carvey and David Spade have a podcast called Fly on the Wall, and they just had a, a, a brand new episode with Charlie Sheen, in which he says that Grizzly 2 was his first acting paycheck and he received $6,000.

[00:09:18] $2,000 a week. So he received three weeks of pay and immediately cashed the check, went into a store and bought two, in his words, fancy camping vests. One, uh, two in in different colors. And he said it was the first time that he actually felt like a big shot. So, uh, I thought you might find that interesting for your Last Looks episode.

[00:09:48] Um, I love the show and, uh, please keep going. Uh, I listened to your podcast and then I watched the movies and, uh, it's, uh, really keeps me going. So thank you so much. Bye.

[00:10:02] Paul Scheer: Josh. You're the best. You are the best. I love. Thank you for your message. First of all, I will admit that when it first started I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:10:11] We know Karate kid. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But then you pulled in this other fact, this fact that no one knew about these camping vests, these camping vests, that I guess each cost $3,000. I mean maybe like 2,800 and tax kind of put it over the edge. Wow. It blew my mind. I love that fact. I love the fact that Charlie Sheen remembers that, and I think it's like one of those things that you remember those purchases when you first get money.

[00:10:39] Like for me. It was, uh, a foldout couch because I mean, I was living in a studio and I thought that was a real upgrade. I guess I should have moved to a bigger apartment, but I remember spending a thousand dollars on a foldout couch. I was like, yeah, this is it. Uh, and then I also remember when I got a little bit more money that I bought another couch at Crate and Barrel because at that point in my life, couches were the things I was spending the most money on, I was like, whoa, a thousand dollars. Like how could I ever, I mean rent, obviously, but Wow. Uh, I love that fact. Josh, you are great. Uh, that Charlie Sheen documentary, uh, is fascinating or as fascinating as it could be when you pay for a documentary to be made about yourself.

[00:11:26] Here's what I'll say. Uh, a lot of, a lot of talk has been around, uh, the monologue that Sam Rockwell gave in, um, White Lotus. I love Sam. Sam is the fucking best. Huge heart, great actor, super funny guy. I thought that Charlie Sheen's monologue about the other side of the menu hit a little harder than Sam Rockwell's monologue in White Lotus.

[00:11:54] So what I'm really asking for here is, can Sam Rockwell bring that character back to just do the monologue from Charlie Sheens Doc? I would love to see it. Um, thank you Josh for that call. Next up, Kelly, what do you got?

[00:12:10] Listener: Hey there. Um, this is Kelly. Um, I'm still honestly feeling a little disoriented from Grizzly 2. Um, but I did wanna bring up something for corrections and omissions, uh, because it didn't make the pod. Um, and that was the wonderful Louise Fletcher, who you all correctly identified as Nurse Ratchet. Also, uh, played the terrifying grandmother in the 1980s adaptation of Flowers in the Attic. Very big for people my age, um, but then had a much larger role as Kai Win one of the major enduring villains of Star Trek Deep Space nine.

[00:12:42] Probably hearing from a lot of Trekkies this week. Um, I was sorry we didn't get to see more of her in Grizzly too, but seeing as how she got more screen time than George Clooney, Laura Linney and Charlie, she, and I guess she did well. Um, the crazy thing though. Is that, uh, this movie had yet another Deep Space Nine Connection.

[00:13:00] One of the poachers was actually played by Mark Alaimo who played Dukat. Um, arguably the other major villain of Deep Space nine who, sorry for the 30-year-old spoiler actually teams up with Kai Win for the end of the. So it was truly bonkers to see Louise Fletcher and Mark Alaimo in a project together, even though their characters never meet, um, like 10 years before they were in the same Star Trek.

[00:13:27] Um, I really wonder if they ever talked about Grizzly 2 on the set of Deep Space Nine or if it was something they both maybe buried in the past, um, since it never came out anyway. Anyway, thank you. I love the podcast so much. I'm hoping to see Dinosaur in DC um, oh, and um, I'd really like to nominate Julia Garner for G Sqwad.

[00:13:47] Uh, bye. Thank you.

[00:13:49] Paul Scheer: Kelly. Oh my gosh. First of all, these messages are warming my heart. Uh, Kelly, I'm a nerd. I'm a Star Trek nerd. You don't gotta tell me, you don't gotta tell me, uh, twice. Uh, but you know, you probably do need to tell me twice because I didn't recognize Louise Fletcher. Uh. I know that name now that I'm looking at it.

[00:14:10] I mean Dukate a hundred percent. Of course I know Dukat and now you put it all together. So even me, a Deep Space Nine Junkie. I love Deep Space Nine, especially the later seasons. Uh. So good. Great pull. Um, and I'm gonna guarantee a hundred percent yes. These people talked about their experience on Grizzly 2. Because it is a, uh, a bond.

[00:14:30] A bond. When you work with somebody on a movie or a TV show, that's so fucked up. It is forever the thing that connects you. It it is. This is, I'm sure. I wish they would've hosted a podcast about it. They should have. Get them on a podcast. Let's get them doing a Grizzly 2 recap podcast. Let's make it happen.

[00:14:47] Alright, coming up, we have a quick break and then more corrections and omissions because they're so damn good. Plus, Jason and I are gonna chat about Halloween and we're gonna reveal next week's movie. Stick around.

[00:14:59] Okay, welcome back. Since our last caller, Kelly, uh, talked a little bit about Julia Garner being in Geek Sqwad.

[00:15:06] Now, I didn't address that initially because now we are gonna get into it. Okay. We're not gonna talk about Grizzly 2 anymore. We are going to just respond to corrections and omissions solely related to the Geek Sqwad and Kelly, your message was awesome. It meant the world to me. But guess what, Julia Garner?

[00:15:28] Not in Geek Sqwad. No, no, no, no, no, no. I don't know why. It's my gut feeling that she should not be in Geek Sqwad. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong. Let's see what other people say. Emily from France.

[00:15:44] Listener: Hi Paul and Jason. This is Emily from France. And I'm calling regarding, uh, the last chat you had with Jake Johnson.

[00:15:53] Just to tell you that in France, the G Sqwad is actually a boy band. When you guys had Backstreet Boys and Nsync, we had G Sqwad written, G dash SQAD. You should check it out they're, something. Um, thanks for all the great content. Love you guys.

[00:16:17] Paul Scheer: Well, of course Emily is right. I love an international call.

[00:16:21] Thank you Emily, for calling us. Uh, and G Sqwad does look like our Geek Sqwad. I like it. Um, so I guess. Essentially by laying down the law that there is a G Sqwad. Then we have to call it Geek Sqwad. No more G Sqwad. It is Geek Sqwad. We do not want any confusion with french boy bands. Okay. Uh, now we're gonna go to the Discord for a second because Bolo Nomadic writes,

[00:16:51] "Nick Holt is like 15 years older than Timothy and Austin. He has been famous for like 25 years. He can't be in Geek Sqwad."

[00:16:59] And Bolo Nomadic. I agree. I agree. I don't know why I, I, you know, maybe I had Superman on the brain. Uh, you know, we all know that, uh, as Scott points out that Nicholas Holt's Big Break was back in 2002's About a Boy he played The Boy against, uh, Hugh Grant.

[00:17:18] Great movie. I, uh, big fan of that writer, Nick Hornby, uh, who has a great substack as well. But, um, I agree. Holt is out. Garner is out.

[00:17:28] Coop says,

[00:17:29] "The only thing that bothers me is that so much of the Geek Sqwad aren't in movies together. The way the brat or frat packs were, we need a modern day breakfast club or Saint Elmo's fire."

[00:17:38] Well Coop, that is a fair point and we got a call that suggests maybe there is a movie that contains most of the Geek Sqwad. After all, Drew from Atlanta. What do you got?

[00:17:49] Listener: Hey, Paul wanted to call about last week's episode where y'all talked about the pitch for Geek Sqwad. I thought a possible good template for who is in the Geek Sqwad is the Manson family kids from Once Upon a time in Hollywood. Those kids all went on to have great success, and you mentioned a lot of them during your show. There was awesome Butler, Mikey Madson, Maya Hawk, Sydney Sweeney, Margaret Qualy just named a few or even a couple that you dismissed like Dakota Fanning. But she doesn't need to be in there.

[00:18:19] I'm sure she would understand. Love the show and appreciate everything you do to brighten up my week every week. Would love for y'all to come out to Atlanta for a tour tour. I don't believe y'all have ever been there before. Um, but I would be first in line. Thanks again and take care.

[00:18:34] Paul Scheer: Okay. Wow. Drew laying it down. Drew, we wanna come to Atlanta. We've asked to come to Atlanta. I don't know why we haven't. That's not. That's odd. I, I, I ask about it all the time. Maybe it's just about where we're going and how long we're on tour for. Uh, we, we will get there eventually. We'll get there. Alright. But let's get into what the main point of this is, drew.

[00:18:57] Okay. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Austin Butler, Mikey Madison, Maya Hawk, Sidney Sweeney, Margaret Qually, Dakota Fanning, all in that movie. Right. Now, we've already talked about getting some of these people in and outta here. Uh, but this is what I'm gonna say. Mikey Madison, I've been on the fence. I don't think that she is worthy of Geek Sqwad yet.

[00:19:21] Anora awesome performance. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, great performance, but I think we need at least three or four performances to get in that Sqwad. That's what I'm saying, three or four big performances. Maya Hawk, I think, falls in that same category. Alright. Uh, Dakota Fanning. I was on. I was there. I was there.

[00:19:44] You know, people talk me outta Dakota Fanning. I thought she was a little too old. I don't know. Alright. I mean, Mikey Madison has been one that has come up, but I, I, I, but if we're talking about the movie, then I have to put Mikey and Maya in again. This is not fully up to me. I have to take it to council.

[00:20:01] By the way, June has a lot of opinions on Geek Sqwad. Now, um, here's the question though. Is, you know, uh, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the only kind of Geek Sqwad movie? Well, guess what. There is another, that's right. There's two, just like, you know, that movie Star Wars. Let's hear from Kate from Mississippi to find out what Kate has to say.

[00:20:27] Listener: Hey, this is uh, Kate driving to a concert in Memphis, which I'm late for, but loved every single bit of the Grizzly 2 episode. But the entire time y'all were talking about this, I wanted to scream Sophie Thatcher. Sophie Thatcher is Geek Sqwad. Uh, we also have the other Nepo Baby along with Qualy Quaid in there.

[00:20:50] And then what's the other guy's name? That's basically the cast of Companion, Lucas Gage, I think. But Sophie Thatcher 100, 100% Geek Sqwad. Just wanna throw that out there. Thanks y'all. Great episode, episode. Talk about this shit all the time. Thank y'all.

[00:21:05] Paul Scheer: Yes, Kate, the cast of Companion are all Geek Sqwad, Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lucas Gage.

[00:21:12] Love Jack. Let's put him in Geek Sqwad. Lucas Gage. Interesting. Sophie Thatcher. I like this too. I like, I'm liking what we're pulling together here. Okay. We're building the Geek Sqwad together. We're going outta the box a little bit. Alright, Kate, thank you for that message. Everybody's message, really, this has been one of the most heartwarming.

[00:21:31] I'm, I'm so into the corrections and omissions. I'm not actually taking in all the emotional, uh, feedback I'm getting here. It is making my day. You are all the absolute best. I I'm coming at you with a lot of love today. Uh, and you are coming at me with love and that's the way it works. You, you get back what you give.

[00:21:47] Um, alright, but here we go, Kate has a hot take.

[00:21:53] Listener: Hi Paul. Uh, longtime listener, first time caller. Um, as a woman who is older than any of this Geek Sqwad, but definitely still younger than Jason, I love the last episode and I have a few observations about people who should be in the Geek Sqwad. Um, first Sabrina Carpenter is definitely sqwad. She was on the Disney Channel and she did that like Netflix, Christmas, whatever thing. And so I think she counts. Um, I couldn't believe it took you so long to say Paul Mezcal. I was literally strolling through Central Park shouting Paul Mezcal. I'm like waving. I'm doing jazz hands. You can't see it.

[00:22:30] As soon as you started talking about the tiny mustaches. Um, and also I think Daisy Edgar Jones probably counts. And, uh, what's his face from the movie with Jacob Elorde who dated Sabrina Carpenter. Um, Barry, I don't know. I can't remember. Um, anyway, I loved it. I think you should do more of that nonsense.

[00:22:49] It was an absolute hoot and I was laughing the whole time. Um, and so also on a, maybe like a little bit more serious note, um, I just wanted to tell you that like last year I was struggling really bad with depression on top of my, you know, persistent A DHD. It got so bad, honestly, that I could hardly get out of bed.

[00:23:10] And one day I went to run an errand and I put on a little Italy episode of the show and I ended up walking all day and listening to a bunch of episodes. Um, and just like wandering around New York totally mindlessly and aimlessly. Um, and so I kind of was able to get myself to do that for a full week and it was enough to like get me to take a step and go see the right kind of doctor and start to like deal with whatever it was that was going on.

[00:23:40] Um, and I really love the nonsense that you guys are doing. It brings so much joy to my life. Keep doing it, please, that's all. And I hope you have a wonderful weekend and week.

[00:23:51] Bye.

[00:23:52] Paul Scheer: Sabrina Carpenter. I don't wanna put her in Geek Sqwad. I don't want to put her in Geek Sqwad because you know, it just feels like it's off center.

[00:24:04] It feels like that's why we were talking about Taylor Swift out of geek. Ah, I get it. I get what you want her in there. I don't feel like it works. Barry Keoghan feel like it works now. Am I messing up my age thing? I might be. Daisy Edgar Jones. Ah, you could twist my arm, my cast mate from Twisters. You could twist my arm to Daisy Edgar Jones.

[00:24:27] I, I, I think that she could do it, but Sabrina Carpenter, I'm drawing that line 'cause she's a different type of entertainer and now she comes back to acting and it's open, doors open again. You know, if she pulls like a Smashing Machine, uh, you know, kind of Safie Brothers team up. I'm, I'm gonna open up the door to Geek Sqwad tour and I gotta say Kate.

[00:24:48] Just when I, and I go out there and I say, oh my gosh, these, these messages they've mean meant the world to me. You come in. And you up it even more. I'm so happy to hear that. I'm happy that you are doing great and thank you for sharing that. And thank you for also sharing three solid choices. You're the best.

[00:25:06] Uh, and uh, hopefully we'll have some good live shows coming up that will, uh, that will make for some good walking around New York listening in the future. Uh, but that means a lot to me, Jason and June, but. We still have business at hand. Okay. Because before we wrap up the Geek Sqwad, I wanna acknowledge that yes, Jason Mantzoukas, Jake Johnson and I, we are middle aged men.

[00:25:32] We aren't the best arbiters of who is Geek Sqwad. I mean, that's what people tell us, right? So to provide a more youthful perspective here is our, How Did This Get Made intern an official Gen Z correspondent Quinn Jennings. Quinn. Take it away.

[00:25:48] Quinn: Hello, this is Quinn, the official Gen Z representative for How Did This Get Made?

[00:25:53] I heard there were a lot of takes about the Geek Sqwad and I have some opinions. I definitely think Timothy Chalamet and Jenna Ortega are in the Geek Sqwad, no question. I know Jeremy Allen White was kicked out at the end, but I'm gonna throw him back in there because even though he is been around for a while, he is currently in conversation

[00:26:16] with these young actors. He, he has a Hulu show. He is a biopic, like he's, he's, he's really doing it. I'm gonna boot Austin Butler, Jacob Elordie, Margaret Qually, and Sydney Sweeney. I really don't think any of them have the edge to be in Geek Sqwad between some Nepo baby status and some denim commercials.

[00:26:42] I really don't think any of them. The four of them have charmed me enough to be in Geek Sqwad. I would add Zendaya, Rachel Sennott, Iowa De, Rachel Ziegler. I think Barry Keoghan could be like the controversial Geek Sqwad member. Uh, Lucas Gage, I think is another person that, uh, really is just everywhere and would kind of vibe with these people and.

[00:27:09] I'm gonna replace Nicholas Holt with Harris Dickinson. Nicholas Holt has been around for a while. Harris Dickinson has been in movies with these people and people get Nicholas Holt and Harris Dickinson confused anyway, so as long as you have one of them in there, doesn't really matter which one. Uh, I'm gonna say Harris Dickinson.

[00:27:30] So those have been my Geek Sqwad takes.

[00:27:32] Bye.

[00:27:33] Paul Scheer: Okay. Quinn's laying it down back in Jeremy Allen White and Zendaya. I was always Zendaya on this. Kicking out Austin Butler. Okay, I think we're done with him. Kicking out Jacob Elordie. Interesting. Margaret Crowley out. Sidney Sweeney out. New pitches Rachel Sennott.

[00:27:54] Ao. Rachel Ziegler. Barry Keoghan, Lucas Gage. Nick Holt out. Harris Dickson in. I gotta say Quinn. You are not coached, you are not told to do anything. But when we went to you and said, you need to help us, I think you laid it down in the best way possible. I am happy with this, with the exception of Jeremy Allen White, who I do feel like it's still too old.

[00:28:22] But you know what? I'm not gonna question you because that isn't my job. I'm going to accept the youth culture has spoken. Listen to the microphone she has. She's not calling in on some phone line. Got a microphone hooked up there. Wow, wow, wow. So many great corrections and omissions this week. But you know what, instead of picking a winner, I'm gonna say you're all winners this week.

[00:28:43] You are all winners. So if you're Kate. If you're the other Kate, if you're Drew, if you're Coop, if you're Bolo Nomadic, if you're Emily, if you're Kelly or you're Josh, guess what? This week you won and you get this theme.

[00:29:07] Music: Congratulations, you are the winner.

[00:29:13] Paul Scheer: Thank you, Scarecrow. That was awesome. I love that. Wow. What an episode. This is a big one. All right, now if you wanna chime in with your own thoughts about the latest episode, hit up our discord, or leave us a message at 6 1 9 P-A-U-L-A-S-K. Alright, coming up after one final break, Jason stops by for Just chat and I will announce our next movie.

[00:29:32] How Welcome back. I'm sure you've noticed that every Tuesday we re-release a classic How Did This Get Made episode back into our feed. This week, we have covered the Nick Cage classic, The Wickerman. Next week we'll have another horror movie matinee for you all to consume. That's right 'cause we're doing it spooky this month.

[00:29:47] So keep on checking out all of our latest replays and classic episodes every Tuesday. And if you're not following us on social media, get on it because our new social media manager, Zoe, is killing it. Killing it. All right. So see what she's putting up there. She did a great little bit of work for, uh, Glitter last week and that was a little matinee tease.

[00:30:10] So, uh, Jason. You and I have a date to talk about Halloween in just a second. Uh, but before we can chat, we need Chris Finke to play us in with a killer tune.

[00:30:26] Music: [Just Chat Intro]

[00:30:26] Paul Scheer: Jason, how are you?

[00:30:28] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, here we are.

[00:30:29] Paul Scheer: Here we are in October. I didn't tell you this, but uh, we bought a 12 foot skeleton.

[00:30:35] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, you didn't tell me. I'm, I'm thrilled. You know what? And I'm glad you're telling me face to face.

[00:30:40] Paul Scheer: You know, because here's the thing. This is June's idea. Not mine.

[00:30:45] Jason Mantzoukas: Wow.

[00:30:45] Paul Scheer: Yes. And here's where it gets even better. This is June's idea that she concocted with our two other neighbors.

[00:30:53] Jason Mantzoukas: Interesting. So interesting.

[00:30:53] Paul Scheer: So we've each bought 12 foot skeletons.

[00:30:56] Jason Mantzoukas: Okay.

[00:30:57] Paul Scheer: So now.

[00:30:58] Jason Mantzoukas: Did they tell a story?

[00:30:59] Paul Scheer: Well, that's what we thought they could do, but they are not as posable as we thought.

[00:31:05] Jason Mantzoukas: Ah.

[00:31:05] Paul Scheer: So now we just have.

[00:31:06] Jason Mantzoukas: Do they move at all or no?

[00:31:07] Paul Scheer: They move a little bit. They move a little. Like we were trying to do. See no evil. Speak no evil. Hear no evil.

[00:31:12] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah. Smart. I like that.

[00:31:13] Paul Scheer: We're gonna. We're gonna play with it some more, but we were, the rigging of it

[00:31:17] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah.

[00:31:17] Paul Scheer: Was a lot of hard, I mean, it's, it's a, it's a 12 foot.

[00:31:20] Jason Mantzoukas: They are 12 foot skeletons.

[00:31:20] Paul Scheer: They're 12 foot skeletons. Uh, and they, and oddly, 12 foot seems small when you stand next to it, like, I guess you don't understand.

[00:31:30] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, yeah.

[00:31:30] Paul Scheer: Like what, 12 foot? Like it feels bigger.

[00:31:32] Jason Mantzoukas: Well, it's different for you because you're seven feet tall.

[00:31:34] Paul Scheer: Well, I mean, that's always an a, a big problem. You know, I, I did this thing with, uh, uh, Shaquille O'Neal, and I stood next to him and I was like, up to his armpit. It was really, I, I haven't felt like a child like that.

[00:31:44] Jason Mantzoukas: That would be strange. Well, any, anytime. I feel like our friend Tall John, anytime I'm around tall John, who I think is six seven or six nine maybe, um, I am genuinely like, wow, this is wild. Uh, Greg Davis from Taskmaster is like in a different atmosphere.

[00:32:00] Paul Scheer: Oh really? See, I'd never really, 'cause he's sitting down a lot.

[00:32:02] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh yeah. It's wild, tall. It's wild. When you get footage of him standing and he then is standing next to someone, you're like, oh, how? Holy cow. He is a a, he's a frost giant.

[00:32:12] Paul Scheer: Well now, so we are the 12 foot skeleton. I will, uh, I will keep on giving you some updates, but this is where we're at, uh, doing bits. And by the way, we had to get this thing delivered from Home Depot. It came on a truck.

[00:32:25] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh.

[00:32:25] Paul Scheer: And it was, it was big. And it was like, and.

[00:32:27] Jason Mantzoukas: Did they set it up? Is it that?

[00:32:28] Paul Scheer: No, no, no, no. It is, it is. Uh.

[00:32:31] Jason Mantzoukas: It's not, is it inflatable? No.

[00:32:33] Paul Scheer: No.

[00:32:33] Jason Mantzoukas: This is, this is like, so, okay. So how does it not like top, like how does it not blow over topple over?

[00:32:39] Paul Scheer: Are attaching it to a frame.

[00:32:41] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh geez.

[00:32:42] Paul Scheer: That is a very, that is a big metal frame that needs to be bolted.

[00:32:46] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, okay.

[00:32:46] Paul Scheer: Into the ground.

[00:32:47] Jason Mantzoukas: I see.

[00:32:48] Paul Scheer: You are protecting, there's a house down the block from me, and this is where we got the idea originally, was that it's a lone skeleton and then someone across the street put another one and we're like, oh, this is funny. Like we should have more skeleton representation.

[00:33:02] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah.

[00:33:02] Paul Scheer: And uh. But the person down the block, their skeleton's always falling over and it looks like a real nightmare. Like.

[00:33:08] Jason Mantzoukas: That seems sad.

[00:33:09] Paul Scheer: Yeah.

[00:33:09] Jason Mantzoukas: That seems sad. Has there ever been a movie where people's, uh, Halloween lawn decorations come to life and attack?

[00:33:17] Paul Scheer: I mean, it feels.

[00:33:18] Jason Mantzoukas: Like the start of a franchise right? That feels like a horror movie, franchise play, which is all the, all the 12 foot skeletons and the, the giant, um, nightmare before Christmas is, what's that guy's name?

[00:33:31] Paul Scheer: Oh yeah. Jack Skeleton.

[00:33:32] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah, Jack Skellingtons. There's a couple of big giant Jack Skellingtons in my neighborhood. Um, all of them, they just come to life with the souls of the damned, I'm assuming.

[00:33:40] Paul Scheer: I, I mean, this is a great animated film and I'm, I think if you don't pitch this immediately, you're a fool.

[00:33:45] Jason Mantzoukas: Should I, should we cut this outta the episode and should I just sell this?

[00:33:49] Paul Scheer: Honestly? You should.

[00:33:50] Jason Mantzoukas: Uh, oh, wait a second.

[00:33:51] Paul Scheer: Oh wait.

[00:33:52] Jason Mantzoukas: Scott is showing us something that seems like this might exist.

[00:33:54] Paul Scheer: The curse of Bridge Hollow. It's a, it looks like a Marlon Wayne's film. It's a Netflix family friendly horror comedy where Halloween decorations come to life.

[00:34:03] Jason Mantzoukas: Ah, there we go. They did it.

[00:34:04] Paul Scheer: Alright. Well, Marlon Waynes did it.

[00:34:05] Jason Mantzoukas: They did it. You, you got me. Marlon Wayne.

[00:34:07] Paul Scheer: I'm gonna go watch that though.

[00:34:08] Jason Mantzoukas: The curse of Bridge Hollow. I mean, let's see how it is.

[00:34:11] Paul Scheer: Maybe wait a second.

[00:34:12] Jason Mantzoukas: What?

[00:34:12] Paul Scheer: Riggle might be in this. Scott, can you continue to see if Riggle is in this What, because I, I believe I've seen.

[00:34:17] Jason Mantzoukas: If Riggle is in this, we need to get him on the podcast to talk about it.

[00:34:20] Paul Scheer: Wait, that's his picture right at the top. Right there.

[00:34:23] Jason Mantzoukas: Wow.

[00:34:23] Paul Scheer: He is in it. 'cause I've seen him wear a shirt that says Bridge Hollow.

[00:34:27] Jason Mantzoukas: We gotta get him to come on and talk about it. Just, uh, if he wants to, obviously I'm so curious.

[00:34:32] Paul Scheer: No, I can't wait.

[00:34:33] Jason Mantzoukas: Okay. Now here's my pitch. Maybe that's our way in, right? And this is having not seen the movie at all. So maybe Riggle dies at the end of the movie. Maybe we, the sequel, uh, we, that's our end as we know Riggle.

[00:34:46] Paul Scheer: The, the bridge. The Bridge Hollow universe. We build it out. We build it.

[00:34:50] Jason Mantzoukas: Mm-hmm.

[00:34:50] Paul Scheer: Do a bigger, the. Um, oh man. I am, I am excited. I'm excited about the and you know, and I think, forgive me if we did talk about this on the show, but I, it's worth repeating that we, uh, pranked people last year with a tall Will Ferrell elf, uh, tall John.

[00:35:11] Jason Mantzoukas: Right. Yes.

[00:35:12] Paul Scheer: Uh, Kulap and myself, uh, bought these, uh, seven foot tall, or I guess I should say a life-size will Ferrell as, uh, Buddy, the Elf, yeah. Animatronics. And then, uh, and then left them on people's doorsteps and, uh, and one was received well.

[00:35:30] Jason Mantzoukas: Wait, did you do it to Huebel?

[00:35:31] Paul Scheer: Yes, Huebel was received well.

[00:35:33] Jason Mantzoukas: Okay. That's what I feel like I remember this. Yeah.

[00:35:34] Paul Scheer: Huebel was great because we, we put it on his doorstep and he sent us the ring footage, uh, which is up on my Instagram page. I, I can repost it here on the How Did ThisGet Made too? Uh, where you hear him go, what the fuck? As soon as he sees the thing.

[00:35:49] Jason Mantzoukas: And then how did you avoid getting caught in the Ring footage?

[00:35:52] Paul Scheer: Okay. Well, Jason, now you're gonna get into some, some details. Okay. So Kulap, Tall John and I bought LED masks that were, uh, holiday themed. We put them over.

[00:36:03] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh.

[00:36:03] Paul Scheer: So they would have, like, ours had images of snowmen. Got it. And, uh, Santa Claus. And they were playing music.

[00:36:11] Jason Mantzoukas: Sure.

[00:36:11] Paul Scheer: And then we were wearing.

[00:36:12] Jason Mantzoukas: So you were, uh, your faces were obscured.

[00:36:14] Paul Scheer: And we were wearing hoodies.

[00:36:16] Jason Mantzoukas: Great smart.

[00:36:16] Paul Scheer: Christmas hoodies tied down tight. And uh, and what we did was we had, uh, we did some prep work and we got the Buddy all ready we parked a house away. Passed, uh, Huebel security cameras and then lifted it, ran onto his property, ah, put the thing down, rang the doorbell, and then got out.

[00:36:36] Jason Mantzoukas: Ah, oh, I see. Okay. Got it.

[00:36:36] Paul Scheer: And, uh, and then, and then we were so excited to see how it was received that we just hung around for too long until Rob did catch us. Now.

[00:36:45] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, he caught you? Oh, I haven't heard this.

[00:36:47] Paul Scheer: Oh yeah.

[00:36:47] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, that's great.

[00:36:48] Paul Scheer: He caught us in the, well, he caught us. 'cause he came out, he was like, Hey, hey.

[00:36:51] And then, and, and then holy shit. And 'cause, and then we did it to Jack and we got a little bit cockier with Jack because we were like, this will be funny, but we really need to, what we didn't do with the buddy at Huebel's House.

[00:37:03] Jason Mantzoukas: By the way, thank you for not doing this to me. Oh, I, I appreciate that.

[00:37:06] Paul Scheer: A a hundred percent. And we understand where we're going with these things. Um, and so we did it with Jack and the way that we thought would be funny was, oh, the Huebel one worked, but what if we could plug it into power?

[00:37:20] Jason Mantzoukas: Sure.

[00:37:20] Paul Scheer: That was the thing that we were missing from the Huble one. So. We, we bought a very long extension cord, like a hundred foot extension cord or something big like that.

[00:37:28] And, uh, and we, we had it all ready. Then we ran up to Jack's house and then we couldn't find an outlet and we were up in the bushes. We were in the thing and, uh, in the middle of us in doing that. Uh, I guess he was alerted by his security cameras.

[00:37:43] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh my God.

[00:37:44] Paul Scheer: And started texting and going.

[00:37:45] Jason Mantzoukas: I mean, good that his things are working.

[00:37:47] Paul Scheer: Yes. And started texting us like, what are you doing?

[00:37:50] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh my God.

[00:37:51] Paul Scheer: To Tall John. Because Tall John is hard to.

[00:37:54] Jason Mantzoukas: Of course, that's a giveaway.

[00:37:55] Paul Scheer: Yeah. So, uh, and uh, and he didn't know what to make of it, but we spent, uh, once we knew he wasn't home, then we were like. On his lawn and we position lights to like kind of illuminate buddy and uh, and have him stand there.

[00:38:09] Jason Mantzoukas: I think the move would be to just travel, like bring a generator. Well that's just drop a, drop a generator and The Buddy and walk away.

[00:38:15] Paul Scheer: You know, and I think you are right about that and that's probably where we will go, we've been looking at Home Depot already. There's two boxes.

[00:38:22] Jason Mantzoukas: I just picture you guys like, like you guys wheeling a gas powered generator onto someone's front lawn.

[00:38:27] Paul Scheer: We gotta do it for the elf pranks. Now here's the thing that was interesting. Um, I had seen this elf, uh, like maybe at the end of November and I sent it to Kulap and I said, who we should put this on someone's lawn. And, and she's like, Huebel. And I was like, great, great. And, but it was expensive. It was like 120 bucks.

[00:38:46] And after this happened, right? Maybe it happened before Christmas. Yeah, right before Christmas. Um, it, the prices kept on dropping and dropping and dropping. Yeah. So we did get this first buddy, uh, for 60 bucks and then the Jack one was way after Christmas and we found One Home Depot and it was very far away. Like in Carson.

[00:39:05] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah.

[00:39:05] Paul Scheer: And we had to drive there and we got that one for $45.

[00:39:08] Jason Mantzoukas: Okay. Oh my god.

[00:39:09] Paul Scheer: So we are, we are a collecting.

[00:39:12] Jason Mantzoukas: It would would be great. And I maybe the buddy or the, if you were to it would, would be fun is if maybe with the inflatable ones.

[00:39:19] Paul Scheer: Yeah.

[00:39:20] Jason Mantzoukas: That you could get an inflatable one.

[00:39:22] Paul Scheer: Ooh.

[00:39:22] Jason Mantzoukas: If, if you could get an inflatable one to be looking in the window of someone's second story.

[00:39:27] Paul Scheer: Oh, that nice.

[00:39:28] Jason Mantzoukas: You know what I mean?

[00:39:28] Paul Scheer: Talking about a big, big guy.

[00:39:30] Jason Mantzoukas: You could bring it up so that when they wake up on the second floor, there is just a big snowman looking in at them now. That is, that would be very funny.

[00:39:38] Paul Scheer: Look. Jason, you may Again, you've pitched a great, uh, animated film. You've now pitched a great

[00:39:43] Jason Mantzoukas: God damnit,

[00:39:44] Paul Scheer: uh, continuation of prank.

[00:39:45] Jason Mantzoukas: I'm just looking it up now. Damon Wayans Jrs already.

[00:39:48] Paul Scheer: Oh, outta town. Oh man.

[00:39:50] Jason Mantzoukas: The Wayans is, are, have this space covered.

[00:39:54] Paul Scheer: They are the original Halloween pranksters. Um, I will tell you one thing, uh, not that this is uh, totally fine for you, but I, uh. The other night, I, I, my kids were like, I wanna watch something funny.

[00:40:05] I wanna watch something funny. And they're like, let's watch Airplane. And I said, well, you know what? Maybe we should watch a scary movie. 'cause I think it's, it's Halloween time.

[00:40:11] Jason Mantzoukas: Have they seen Airplane?

[00:40:12] Paul Scheer: They, they have a while ago. Yeah. Yeah. But I also know how Airplane works and I, it's the same way I feel about Naked A Gun.

[00:40:18] It's a little too old. It's a little too old for them in the sense of they're not getting why it's super funny.

[00:40:26] Jason Mantzoukas: Yes.

[00:40:26] Paul Scheer: Like they'll get the bigger jokes and

[00:40:27] Jason Mantzoukas: Sure.

[00:40:27] Paul Scheer: And, and, you know, um, not that I've shown them Naked Gun, but I've, I'm, I'm very careful a man. Oh man. I put on that Scary Movie, the first one.

[00:40:33] Yeah. I was like, that one's a funny one. It's so dirty. We had to turn it off immediately.

[00:40:37] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, whoa.

[00:40:38] Paul Scheer: Oh, it was so like just a Carmen Elektra. Like, literally just like.

[00:40:44] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah, I'm trying to remember that movie, which I haven't seen probably since it came out.

[00:40:47] Paul Scheer: By the way. I'm not saying it wasn't funny.

[00:40:50] Jason Mantzoukas: Yeah.

[00:40:50] Paul Scheer: It was very funny. It just was it like so grossly inappropriate. I was like, whoa, I almost blanched at how, uh,

[00:40:57] Jason Mantzoukas: My god.

[00:40:58] Paul Scheer: How, how much it was. But you know, it did open up with a great joke, which is, you know, she gets the phone call from the, the guy in the Scream mask and immediately makes a little fart and he goes, what's, what's that?

[00:41:07] And she's like, oh, I just farted. Classic.

[00:41:10] Jason Mantzoukas: It's classic. Great.

[00:41:12] Paul Scheer: Just a nice throw it away line.

[00:41:13] Jason Mantzoukas: Yes.

[00:41:13] Paul Scheer: That is, uh, really well done.

[00:41:14] Jason Mantzoukas: Gimme that all day, every day.

[00:41:16] Paul Scheer: You know, uh, also at Universal Studios, Jason, they are, uh, they have, uh, an option this year at their horror mazes as, uh, wet or dry.

[00:41:23] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, no.

[00:41:24] Paul Scheer: Yeah.

[00:41:25] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh God, no.

[00:41:26] Paul Scheer: Wet or dry? What? What do you prefer?

[00:41:28] Jason Mantzoukas: Wet or dry? Like what is the, like, like a rub, like, like, like a barbecue rub?

[00:41:33] Paul Scheer: Ah, you, you get to pick how you would like to experience your horror maze.

[00:41:38] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, the idea. Listen to me. The idea of being at Universal Studios for Universal Horror Nights and being wet. Oh, is pure misery.

[00:41:51] Pure misery.

[00:41:52] Paul Scheer: Look, I have been there many times, um, and, uh, I, I will recommend to everybody you have to go to, uh, this one haunted house. Uh, that out that's out here in Calabasas. Uh, it, it's amazing. It's the biggest haunted house. Just type in big haunted house, LA. But when I've gone to that Universal one, they give you the smells of poop, which is a new invention.

[00:42:14] So you walk through like these things and you, you smell poop. And then, then they'll do these little things like where it's like a guy like going, my baby, my baby. And then he turns the baby to you, and then the baby like pretends to pee on you. But it's like water. So it's, yeah. Yeah. So you like, so it, it is like when you are getting wet, it's not just like blood's like. It's pee.

[00:42:33] Jason Mantzoukas: No.

[00:42:33] Paul Scheer: And then, yeah. So you really.

[00:42:35] Jason Mantzoukas: No. And what is that? Even though that's not urine, it's just water. But if that, if that doll water gets in my mouth or my eyes.

[00:42:42] Paul Scheer: Yeah, no.

[00:42:42] Jason Mantzoukas: It's, I'm just like, the rest of the night I'm like, oh, great, now I have like pink eye or great. Now I've got some other situation.

[00:42:49] Paul Scheer: It doesn't feel healthy. It, it doesn't feel good.

[00:42:52] Jason Mantzoukas: Well, that's how I feel about, what's the technology called? The tech, I'm calling it technology called where you, in the movie theaters where it sprays you with water or rocks the seat or.

[00:43:01] Paul Scheer: Oh, yeah. 4DX. They have that.

[00:43:02] Jason Mantzoukas: Yes. Yeah.

[00:43:03] Paul Scheer: You can turn off the water effects, but.

[00:43:05] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, you can? Okay. 'Cause one time I did it, it had water on it and I was like, never again, actually, will I ever do this.

[00:43:11] Paul Scheer: That the water effects on that are, are tricky because that's the way I, because.

[00:43:17] Jason Mantzoukas: You're not gonna convince me that teenagers aren't pissing in the, in the, in the water canisters.

[00:43:23] Paul Scheer: It doesn't feel to me. Like that water is filtered in any way. It doesn't feel like.

[00:43:27] Jason Mantzoukas: No way.

[00:43:28] Paul Scheer: Like, look, there's a, I can buy that if I'm going on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios and I'm going down that waterfall, the water's being circulated. There's something going on. Right. You can't piss in all that. It's not probably the cleanest water.

[00:43:40] Jason Mantzoukas: Sure, sure.

[00:43:41] Paul Scheer: You know, but there's something happening. I don't know what's going on. I don these movie I don't know where. Don't, I don't know. I don't know what's going on in these movie theaters.

[00:43:47] Jason Mantzoukas: We gotta be careful. We can't just be letting random water into our mouths and eyes.

[00:43:52] Paul Scheer: No, no. And not, not in a moment of shock. I mean.

[00:43:54] Jason Mantzoukas: No, not, yes.

[00:43:55] Paul Scheer: I don't want that. Yeah.

[00:43:56] Jason Mantzoukas: Exactly. Not in a moment of shock. You're never more open and vulnerable to rogue water droplets.

[00:44:02] Paul Scheer: Well, this is what I was saying, like when you, when you create the smell of poop and you are walking through one of these haunted houses. You are like, oh, oh, oh. And then you're, you're prone to have more of your bo you are, your defenses are down, your mouth is open, and then you get sprayed. And now it's, now I took a big, big, big gulp.

[00:44:18] Jason Mantzoukas: That's my new show. That's a riff. You know that 'cause that's what Hot Ones is. You know, Hot Ones is like, it puts you in a position where you're physically uncomfortable and so you are more likely to say or reveal more personal things or, or be more your, your guard is dropped. And so my version of a similar show is you. Just go around picking up particularly pungent shits.

[00:44:42] Paul Scheer: Oh. Um, Jason, I'm so sorry. Yeah. Keenan Ivory Wayans actually has that,

[00:44:47] Jason Mantzoukas: No.

[00:44:47] Paul Scheer: Yeah, yeah. That's a show on Quibi.

[00:44:49] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh, it's on Quibi. It's a quick bite?

[00:44:51] Paul Scheer: Yeah, it's a quick bite.

[00:44:52] Jason Mantzoukas: They bringing back quibis back?

[00:44:53] Paul Scheer: They're bringing back Quibi for that show. It's only, it's the only stream.

[00:44:57] Jason Mantzoukas: Do you know that roku bought Quibi?

[00:44:58] Paul Scheer: Yes.

[00:44:59] Jason Mantzoukas: Roku owns the Quibi library. I have only just recently found this out.

[00:45:02] Paul Scheer: Yes. And you can watch all of the

[00:45:04] Jason Mantzoukas: Yes.

[00:45:04] Paul Scheer: Uh, like the woman with the golden arm and there's some there and they put them together. So there's a.

[00:45:10] Jason Mantzoukas: Yes.

[00:45:10] Paul Scheer: There's a, um, a flow to them that I think is better.

[00:45:13] Jason Mantzoukas: There's a, it's more cohesive than the, um, than, uh, than the them quick bite, digesting them as quick bites.

[00:45:19] Paul Scheer: Quick bites.

[00:45:20] Jason Mantzoukas: Ooh. Actually, that if we, if that is a segue that I can segue into, uh, something I watched.

[00:45:25] Paul Scheer: Yeah, sure. Go ahead.

[00:45:27] Jason Mantzoukas: Uh, speaking of things that were, that were shown to us initially as one co connected thing

[00:45:32] Paul Scheer: Yeah.

[00:45:32] Jason Mantzoukas: But are actually, um, conceived of as smaller things, which is Criterion if you have the Criterion app.

[00:45:40] Paul Scheer: Oh yeah.

[00:45:40] Jason Mantzoukas: They have all of the seasons of The Trip. The.

[00:45:45] Paul Scheer: Oh, I love that. Yeah.

[00:45:46] Jason Mantzoukas: Coogan and Bryden. uh, Steve Coogan, Rob Bryden, Michael Winterbottom. uh, the series that are all the, that, and they, they have that movie edits as well in the States, we got the movie, uh, we got them all edited together, but they were.

[00:45:59] Paul Scheer: Oh, that was a TV show? I didn't know that.

[00:46:00] Jason Mantzoukas: Were conceived of as each of them is a six episode season of television.

[00:46:04] Paul Scheer: Wow. Okay.

[00:46:05] Jason Mantzoukas: So, um, the shows are incredibly satisfying just because they really dig in on more of the difficulties and the, the embarrassing, uh, fights that they're getting, they just goes deeper emotionally.

[00:46:19] Paul Scheer: Oh, I can't wait. I just watch criter. Like, you know, I forget how good Criterion is and it's often a, a best one that I just turn on. Last night I watched, uh, the. Was it the Long Kiss? Goodnight, the Elliot Gould. Oh, long Goodbye. Long Goodbye. Oh my gosh.

[00:46:32] Jason Mantzoukas: Incredible.

[00:46:33] Paul Scheer: I just, I just put that onto just fold some laundry. And I was like.

[00:46:35] Jason Mantzoukas: So funny. They, so you and I similarly, uh, have, so they have just put up all the Robert Altman movies.

[00:46:42] Paul Scheer: Yes.

[00:46:42] Jason Mantzoukas: So, and I watched half of, uh, Preta Porter last night.

[00:46:45] Paul Scheer: Okay. And I, I, I've been on a.

[00:46:47] Jason Mantzoukas: Which is one that I haven't watched in since it came out.

[00:46:50] Paul Scheer: Well, they also have like a seventies thriller thing that was like, I think that was last month.

[00:46:53] Yeah. Which has been like the parallax view and stuff like that.

[00:46:56] Jason Mantzoukas: Chinatown.

[00:46:57] Paul Scheer: And, and I found my way to that because, uh, I was watching after, uh, Robert Redford died last month. I was watching a. Uh, Sneakers and

[00:47:07] Jason Mantzoukas: Oh yeah.

[00:47:08] Paul Scheer: I was like, and I was like, oh. And it it reminded, it, it, I like that. I like that.

[00:47:12] Jason Mantzoukas: There's, there's a great Action Boys episode about Sneakers actually.

[00:47:14] Paul Scheer: Ooh.

[00:47:15] Jason Mantzoukas: From, uh, from just a few months ago.

[00:47:17] Paul Scheer: Ooh, I gotta go listen to that. That'll be great.

[00:47:18] Jason Mantzoukas: Um, Action Boys have been on fire lately. Fantastic episodes.

[00:47:21] Paul Scheer: Did they do the Chuck Norris talk show that just a live, uh.

[00:47:25] Jason Mantzoukas: That was their live, that was a live thing. Yes.

[00:47:26] Paul Scheer: I love that.

[00:47:27] Jason Mantzoukas: Their live shows, which are available to, to stream on their Patreon are incredibly funny.

[00:47:32] Paul Scheer: I, uh, I gotta go watch that tonight. Um, Jason, uh, I know we have to keep this one short, so, uh, we'll be back again. We'll recommend more things and, and keep you up to date on our pranks and other, uh, details like that.

[00:47:43] Jason Mantzoukas: Alright.

[00:47:44] Paul Scheer: Thank you Jason. Now it is finally time to announce our next movie. We are gonna go from Bear Stories to Jason Vorhees.

[00:47:51] I said it fast, so it seemed like it rhymed. That's right. We'll be venturing back into the Friday the 13th franchise for a third time to cover 1989's Friday the 13th, part eight, Jason Takes Manhattan. Here's the deal. People get ready for June, Jason and I to be confused about the lore of the Jason films.

[00:48:07] Sorry. This is your fair warning to just prep for that. Emotionally prep for that, for us to be confused. Anyway, IMDB breaks down the plot by saying

[00:48:16] "Jason Vorhees is accidentally awakened from his watery grave and ends up stalking a ship full of graduating high school students headed to Manhattan."

[00:48:24] Oh boy.

[00:48:25] Jason takes Manhattan more like Jason travels to Manhattan. Anyway, a Rotten Tomatoes gives this film 11%, and Richard Harrington from the Washington Post wrote,

[00:48:33] "Jason has been raised once more from the bottom of the lake. Probably around the same time this script was scraped from the bottom of the barrel."

[00:48:40] Ooh. Yeah. Way to go, Richard Harrington. I like that. I mean, I'm making fun of it, but I'm not really, it was a good one. Uh, here we go, people. You wanna know what Jason takes Manhattan's about? Well, get ready. 'cause here is a trailer.

[00:48:52] Trailer Audio: The city.
